Me and ChatGPT

2025-06-11

Up until May, I was using ChatGPT a lot—for everything, really. I practically lived my life by asking ChatGPT what to do in every situation.

Then one day, my husband said to me, “You’ve been asking me what I think about things more often lately, instead of making your own decisions.” That comment really hit me. I realized he was right. Around that time, I had already started to feel that I couldn’t think deeply about things anymore. I’d gotten so used to letting ChatGPT make all the decisions for me that my own thinking skills had started to decline.

So I canceled my subscription, deleted the app from my phone, and decided to use it only when absolutely necessary for work. It’s been about two weeks since then, and I feel like my brain is slowly getting back to normal.

I can’t help but wonder—are there more people like me out there, whose ability to think and make decisions is weakening? A girl I know told me she talks to ChatGPT about her future and makes life decisions based on what it says—like it’s her friend or something.

It feels like society is going back in time, when people relied on fortune-telling or superstitions to decide things. But maybe it’s not all bad. Maybe the younger generation will learn to use AI in clever ways and develop different parts of their brain. Maybe the world won’t be full of people who can’t think for themselves like I feared… just maybe.
