Finally Planned Our Honeymoon

2025-04-25

We finally planned our honeymoon.

It has been almost six months since we got married, and we finally got around to it.

At first, we were thinking about going to Hawaii, but after hearing about tariff issues and stricter border controls in the U.S., we decided against it.

Since May is the only time my husband can take a long vacation, we felt pressured to decide quickly, so we focused this month on choosing a destination.

We wanted somewhere warm and “honeymoon-like,” so we decided on a Greek island.

We will enjoy a resort experience in Greece and then head to Switzerland to explore the Alps — a “sea and mountain” plan. (Since there are no direct flights from Vancouver to Greece, we thought it would be nice to at least have a direct flight home, so we decided to return from Switzerland.)

By the way, after booking our flights, I learned how expensive Switzerland is and was shocked by the high hotel prices.

But it is what it is. It is our honeymoon, so we cannot be too stingy. Well, we definitely could have done more research beforehand.

To be honest, ever since moving to Canada, I have only traveled abroad to the U.S. and Japan, so planning a trip to somewhere completely new feels strange.

Back when I lived in Japan, I used to travel alone around Asia every year. (I actually wanted to travel with someone, but it never worked out with everyone’s schedules, so I always ended up going solo.)

When I traveled alone, I would always look for cheap flights to countries I had never been to, and I stayed in budget hostels.

Since I was by myself, I could make all the decisions freely, but traveling with someone — especially for a honeymoon — is a different experience.

We have to confirm everything together, and I am not used to that, so sometimes it feels a little annoying. But I guess that is part of the honeymoon experience too.

I need to buy a new suitcase by next month, and I also want to upgrade my phone.

There are so many expenses, and so much to do, it feels like every day is a bit overwhelming.
